The role of the Medical Assessor includes:
-undertaking medical case assessments to establish the fitness of flight crew and air traffic controllers;
-issuing, varying, limiting or revoking aircrew and air traffic controllers’ medical certification to ensure medical standards are maintained
-contributing to the development of new or updated policy/guidance material
-undertaking special projects and research
-undertaking oversight and training of aeromedical examiners and aeromedical organisations.
Knowledge and Experience
-Medical Degree and Licence to Practise in the UK
-Satisfy the criteria for certification as an AME
-Extensive post-graduate experience as a GP or specialist (e.g. in Occupational Medicine)
-Experience in Aviation and Space Medicine, with a qualification such as the DAvMed an advantage
-Strong IT literacy
-Good general administration skills/report writing skills
-Ability to stay calm and work efficiently and effectively under pressure
