An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CAA Architecture Team in helping to deliver the UK Civil Aviation Drone Registration and Education service.

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect with extensive experience of Azure cloud hosted delivery to primarily help in delivering this public facing digital service.

On the primary project you will be working with an external supplier and as part of a combined agile delivery team, to support the delivery of the service to GDS standards.

You will gain exposure to the GDS process, multi-supplier cross team working, implementation of a National and International compliant regulatory system and Azure cloud service deployment utilising a CI/CD pipeline.

Dependent on resource requirement on the primary project (which will change over the course of the delivery) you will work on secondary projects within the CAA.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assure the 3rd party suppliers delivery meets CAA standards and adheres to CAA principles. Assurance of design documentation and presentation of issues to the Technical Design Authority will be required.

• Assurance of the Azure environment making sure the components are secure and built to Microsoft best practices.

• Support the Platform Engineers in building Azure components across the relevant environments.

• Produce designs and design documentation to CAA standards as needed on the primary or secondary projects.

Ideal candidate

An understanding and some capability in all of the Enterprise Architecture disciplines – data, application, technology and business, with strong expertise in at least two.

Both broad and deep awareness of good practices in architecture for both waterfall and agile development ensuring resilient designs in the face of rapidly changing requirements.

Experience of working to the Government Digital Services framework will be advantageous.

A demonstrable understanding of technologies and methodologies used by the CAA is required for this role. In particular, Microsoft Azure Cloud Hosting, Design incorporating Azure components and services, Web technologies and SQL Server;

An understanding of the security requirements to manage information to "official-sensitive" level.

Types of Information

CAA's ATS maintains personal information that you voluntarily submit electronically on one or more secured servers. The CAA will delete all personal information associated with unsuccessful applications after two years following an unsuccessful application. If your application results in an offer, CAA retain your personal information for the duration of our relationship with you, following which condensed employee file details are kept for 7 years. Thereafter, personal details (including full name, years of service, date and reason for leaving) are kept for a period of 30 years to enable CAA to provide information for referencing requests.

Accuracy of Information

You are responsible for ensuring that all information submitted by you and contained within the ATS is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. Knowingly submitting inaccurate, false, or misleading information may make you ineligible for consideration for employment opportunities, and in some cases where CAA rely upon such information, may lead to termination of employment with CAA. CAA takes all reasonable steps to ensure that information collected within the ATS by its employees and representatives is correct, however, CAA will rely upon you to access the ATS periodically to update or verify your personal information and to confirm your willingness to receive communications from CAA.

Withdrawing from Participation

Participants in CAA's ATS should contact CAA via email directed to: Indicating whether they wish to withdraw from a particular competition or alternatively, from all participation in the ATS. You have a right to complain to the ICO about the CAA's processing of personal data.
